Sunny day today and was hoping to take some photos of my bees working the willows. However they weren't flying (maybe the cold wind was a deterrent) but managed to get one of tree bumble working female willow flower.

Had a quick peek at the home apiary today and they were flying in large numbers. So many that they got the wifes washing the little watsits. Still 10 of them will be going to an out apiary soon.

A steady flow of willow pollen, gorse and a dark blue pollen?? Not sure what the blue pollen is this time of year.

This is the first willow pollen of the year
11c and sunny with a gentle breeze.

Yesterday we were repairing fence and replacing posts and I was in t shirt. Bees were all around on plums, meadow, etc.. Today snow is falling and I am wearing winter jacket to wind doesn't blow me away.. More snow in next few days.. whole winter there were no significant snow and now it will fall and scorch all the fruit buds and again no fruit for us.. Will wait to see but all people are talking we are done with fruits this season.. Hail to climate changes..

Checked all my hives this morning. The usual disappointment lost one of my best but 2 which I thought were dodgy have come through. All the hive with 2 exceptions needed more fondant, short of stores, Some were flying others were busy in the hive. I have lost 6 this winter but to be honest I would not have placed a bet on 3 of them in the first place.

Blue pollen might be Squill.
I have lots out in the garden.

Pond frozen this morning including frog spawn.
Lovely day 7C and cold wind..

Bees flying? err only the soon to be dead.

Your a very brave man!!

Not really, yesterday was near 20Celsius, today around 5C and strong cold northern wind..
How weather situation develop I am not optimist for this beekeeping season. Not good at all..

" If wearing shorts Maybe avoid wearing boxers?"
No, work trousers and t-shirt.

All colonies busy in the sunshine today .. lot of pollen coming in - all sorts of colours - goodness only knows what it is there is so much in blossom around me at present. Plum trees, cherry trees, blackthorn, willow, rosemary, loads of ornamental shrubs that I don't know the name of. I spent some time hacking down what is left of the loostrife around my pond and the bees were all around me gathering water. Don't see a lot of point disturbing them at present the hives are all still hefting well - I'll wait until we've had some consistent warm days.

Really warm here today. I need to move a hive up the garden, but it's too heavy for me to lift and move, so I made a base with four wheels. Today took the hive apart removed the empty nadired super and placed onto a new floor on the bee- mobile. Bees hardly noticed, very well behaved and all is well.
Now I can move it a foot every day and get the job done without too much disturbance I hope.
Lots of yellow pollen going in to all hives today - from local willows and watched bees on my laurels which are now in flower.

Very creative .. if the entrance continues to point in the same direction and there is no hive on the original site you should be able to manage more than a foot a day .. do it at night when they have stopped flying and see what happens with four or five feet. You can always wheel it back a bit if you get some that are looking confused.

Fed most of the nucs some polen patties.

Painted a pallet of Abelo supers and brood boxes and four double poly nucs with first coat of paint.

Those new Abelo boxes are a complete PITA to paint compared to the older style ones. The new crown board and feeder is truly excellent however.

Popped over to Garn cottage for a quick look at the bees, looking good with clouds of bees around the hives but put a little fondant on two as, even though bees are shifting in willow pollen and (probably) nectar, they were dangerously light as they were exeptionally strong colonies going into winter. Not foolhardy enough to do more than crack open a few crown boards to check the status quo - the nuc I have down there is looking good and will be moved back to a spot I have saved at the home apiary before long.
Wandered around the home apiary, all hives and nucs looking good there as well.

In view of the Coronavirus and a high percentage of beekeepers being over the age of the classification of vulnerable . What do you think about tending your bees in an out apiary whilst under orders to self isolate for 12 weeks ?

If you can do it in isolation then why not? Unless you have to drive there I guess
