I guess... No benefit to the host though although until we know about whether they're feeding on them probably better to assume you're right on this.

Lots of insects carry mites as passengers. It is called phoresis, although that relates to any organism, incl plants where seeds attach to other organisms.

Yes indeed. In fact varroa outside the brood on adult bees used to be called phoretic. We know better now.

I don't know....Pollen mites hitch a ride on Bumblebees. Isn't that similar?

well it does clear out pollen clogged cells which may go mouldy before they are needed
