There's a "hard mode" that requires you to use the letters and positions you already know in subsequent attempts, so not doing so can't really be cheating.

I don't have "hard mode" enabled, but I do actually try to use the information I already know and have managed to do so in all but a couple of cases where my brain went walkabout for a while (today's was one, in fact, as for some reason I didn't use one of the letters I knew from attempt 2 in attempt 3 even though I could have done).
