I was having a struggle, and an absent vocabulary when I plugged Gauje in. There is debate about it being a legitimate scrabble word and its roots seem to be from Ladin, although I thought it was possibly Roma.

Don't recall that I've ever heard the word. Every day's a learning day

Re roche's puzzle: bold, rather than trying something we'd know.
I'm surprised the Wordle dictionary has that in! It's not in my 10230 list of 5 letter words and I know Wordle dictionary is less than that, 7k or so I think.

Luckily the one in the right place and the only option for the remaining one limited the choice!

I reckon this could be a tricky one due to the number of possible options if you find certain letters first.

I made the wrong choice from my selection of "possibles" for attempt two, but it would have been sheer luck if I'd got the correct one.

eliminating well, about 50 possibles remain
spent a while choosing my best tester, groan! moving the one letter I knew and using some high odds letters...
which gave me this as the only option, maybe if the solution had been elsewhere in the 50 it might have left more than one option for line 4?
Seems if I can eliminate 13 or so letters the solution has a high chance of being knowable, unless it is unusual (repeats, no vowels etc though I try to use only 1 vowel in first turns to stay flexible; so I'd know more about consonants in a no vowels word and there's only around 20 of them.)

this was the step that locked me down, 8 options but little to narrow the field
even worse now. Should have seen the comments here first, might have thought longer!



Should have seen all those common starters and avoided like the plague at line 2!
