During an online chat. It was mentioned about using food colouring in sugar syrup to differentiate stores from natural resources. Apart from using natural ingredients does anyone else do this?

Well if you want your honey turning green like it did in the war don’t do it🤣

I would like to see a photo of a frame with coloured stores in, just for interest.
It’s no different to a frame holding honey/nectar from a variety of sources. I had some red nectar last spring that got me wondering.

I will have to remove supers soon on a couple of colonies that feed a LOT on chocolate waste....
I will take a few pics and post.
I actually have a few that have had access to golden syrup and later corn syrup... should produce a bit of a contrast....
Will start a new thread - descriptive name to follow...

Thanks for any photos you put on - much appreciated! But isn't it a bit of a risk that they have had access to these two? Was there some kind of spill?
We have a lot of waste delivered to several of our farming units.. One in particular is our Bioplant and truck wash bay.... Even though efforts are made to process this kind of waste as fast as possible, bees just find a way to access it... Its like the truck wash bay, first light and bees are waiting for a free easy meal... 30 tons of waste in skips leaves some residue behind.... Hundreds of liters... (All waste from the manufacturing process for retail)
We are also very secluded in a farming district BIG BIG areas far from others...

No "Honey" from these colonies is ever sold or makes it to market.... Usually fed back to trap or cut outs that we relocate / save... Or, fed back to colonies not doing well that need a helping hand...

Fair enough - impossible to avoid as you say. Had heard that corn syrup wasn't good for bees, but not a major effect overall I suspect given the circumstances. Just a nice bonus for them!

I thought corn syrup was what the Chinese adulterate and bulk out their honey with.

Just one of many syrups used for that unfortunately.

Great to see you have come out to play Eltel63, we can be quite a nice bunch here, you don't have to wait another 4 years to chat 😊.

The Chinese use rice syrup actually, which is itself adulterated to resemble the fructose/sucrose makeup of honey.
Many of the big US concerns use corn syrup to feed their bees.
