Hello,
I have one colony headed by a Buckfast queen. She came with the nuc I purchased and was the daughter of a breeder queen that was open mated.
At some point in the future I hope to split my colony.
My bees have had a good temperament (so far), which is very important to me as I want to keep them in my garden. (I do have a back-up pace to take them if needs be).
I have read that Buckfast bees can become vicious if the line is not kept pure.
Will I be able to split my hive, producing my own open mated queen, or will this risk leaving me with nasty bees?
Are my bees classed as f1 or f2 hybrids?
Thanks in advance.
