Raining at long last....

A good soak in progress here so my late honey crop may just..... be rescued. Bees have been drinking water this last 14 days so no income on the go.

I cross my fingers for another few supers.

I hope yours is looking better too.

Not to mention the moors very badly needing some juice.

Mmmmm...... are you serious lol we have had rain all May and June finally July was so so and now rain again but hopefully only today.
If you need rain please bring your bees for a day out or two to Wales. We just look forward to non wellie days.

Things are still looking promising here in Lincs. I returned to finish a job started Wednesday. Re-queening a colony.

Yesterday they were in the air and following. Today with the new queen installed they were noticeably quieter, even though there was a storm approaching. I did not get the job finished until after the clouds started to drench me. Lots of electrical discharges, too

Looks like there may be over three supers between the two colonies at that site - and they are collecting (quite a bit of nectar in the supers) more, probably from the river banks close by.

Another downpour this am - I need to get this beesuit dried for use later at another site.

Although here there has been quite a lot of himalayan balson coming in stronger colonies still filling supers at the moment and the nucs doing well for stores(a little to well in some cases)

The bees have been using the water butt by the side of the house for a week or so, which seems strange as they are bring in necter

Started raining here in the early hours and still raining know Just what is needed as its not rained for weeks, it will freshen things up and is just the stimulus the plants need and we might get a few frames filled before the supers come off for exstaction

i pulled my supers off last week, extracted 34lbs of runny honey. Put and empty drwan super back on one hive and in a week its almost full again. the himalayan balson is is comming out big style here

Yep, a real problem in Sussex- raining today but too little too late. Crops look very stunted.
One of my colonies had 3 supers of honey nearly all capped- now back down to one- two others totally stripped out. Not a good year...
But on the bright side- the bees are all healthy

In Brightlingsea we miss the rain it goes all around but we always miss out although today its raining horrah !! its bone dry usually

For once I can't fault the weather this last couple of weeks. Rain today for a bit just to get the nectar flowing nicely again, and days of hot(ish) sunny weather.

Bees are going nuts on all the nearby garden flowers, plus the balsam is coming into flower alongside the canal. Apart from a short mad period in April this is easily the best foraging they've had all year. At last the supers are getting heavier!

Now for the usual dilemma about when to treat with Apilife Var... it seems a shame to taint all that lovely September balsam honey, but they're going strong at the moment... choices, choices. So far, it looks like one colony (no mite drop all year) will not be treated, one is already under treatment (lots of mites at end of July) and the other (two mites max over three days) will be treated later on in September. Maybe.

My bees were flying in torrential rain this morning. Could not believe it!
I always assumed that if it was heavily raining the bees would not fly.

Apparently not.

Ours were going crazy back and forth.
