Hi Guys, starting to delve into the world of Beekeeping. Doing a course this weekend with a local beekeeper/beefarmer. Awaiting to hear back from my local beekeeping association to join. Planning on going to the beekeeping show next weekend. Would really like to get started this spring.
Been doing research into hives and currently swaying to Langstroth, but keeping an open mind until i have done my course.

Would like to have gone down the Langstroth path myself, but compatibility with other people's gear ended up being more of a requirement.

Hi, Parisair, and welcome. Wise decision to delay your decision; Lang is an international size and at good prices, but the frame lugs (the ends of the frame that you pick up to pull out) are shorter. This can be awkward for a beginner (don't let that put you off, you will get used to it) but do compare the design with the National.

Many beekeepers (esp. at scale) wish they had started with Langs but as most started as amateurs, we bought into National and for many, it's too late to change. Advantage of the National is that the boxes are reasonably small in comparison to Lang, so consider box weight when full. If I went into Lang I'd choose Honey Paw.

Well done for signing up to a course. However a weekender will skim the surface. Try you local assoc and see if you can join their beginners course too. You will get much deeper info and be introduced to other local beekeepers
