new feeder to save my bees

I was using a feeder that I was given, { see piccie I know its old but thought it would be ok till I get a new one}, I noticed some of my bees were drowning in it and they didn't use it very often. So I made this one , they don't drown and now they are using it alot . What do think?

Looks good. I just put straw in a litter tray with an empty super around it, the bees can easily get out.

I have a frame feeder and I fill with lots of twigs - no drowned bees

Your first picture looks like a chicken drinker to me - if so it does give me an idea. A 5 litre one is £3.78 from Mole Valley Farmers.

use chicken drinkers in mine regularly not had problem drowning but if I had to would use stones in the moat so to speak

Nice idea! - Carefull when filling it up and inverting without spilling.

Be careful. easy to put it in place on top of the brood and then catch the top when you put the hive back together. A litre of sugar syrup can come as a bit of a shock when it is given in one dose!!!! Otherwise, brilliant cheap idea!
