Just been down the m5 to collect a new hive (bb only) full of bees off a friend. placed them in the garden a few metres away from my existing hive and removed all tape/foam sealing them up. They appear to be happily flying about exploring. Should I be on the look out for anything at this point and when should I first inspect the hive?

thanks everyone, Ben.

Hope you left them quietly for an hour before opening. I would look in 1 week. Just check eggs present and they have room to expand.
If they are on outer edges as well, and loads of brood, put a super on top. If super undrawn comb, leave for a few days before you put QE between boxes to encourage them up. If drawn comb, QE immediately.

Shove a varroa board in to give you some idea of mite level

Hi beewade,
As above, but don't they come with some hive records? Only ever collected swarms. Good luck with the new arrivals.
