I have three hives. One has almost no mites, one is dropping 3 to 4 a day, but one is dropping 33 a day. I have treated it twice with apiguard with the last tray coming out about two weeks ago. Can I do another treatment at this time of year, is there any point?

Do you know anyone who has an oxalic sublimation tool?

Some of the chemical ones work in lower temperatures, Apitraz for example.

I'd treat them all if it were me.

:iagree:The temperature is still warm enough to use apiguard but as I am not a fan of it anyway, I would use a combination of OA and apitraz on all hives.

I would be inclined to treat them all, preferably apivar and walk away. You would only need to crack open again to remove. Any in your local club with an open pack?. If you can lay your hands on a vaporiser all good, you would need it for a few weeks.

Amitraz and be done with.

I don't have a vapouriser, would an early OA trickle be OK? Normally, I don't do OA trickles until December.

Not much point as there will likely be quite a bit of sealed brood in the colony. And OA dribbled isn't good for unsealed brood either.

One of my colony's the same. I've treated with apilife-var.
5 week treatment and there's still a good mite drop .
In the same situation shiney. Could I use api-bioxal? Now?

Unless we get a sudden heat wave it's vaporization or strips with miticides.
As Fatshark has already pointed out you don't want to be dribbling OA when brood is present.
I think I'd go with strips and leave them in for 6 weeks. Apivar probably being favorite.

OK, thanks for the replies, I've ordered some Apivar and hopefully that will be here tomorrow or Monday.

Drops are variable, really depends on all year round husbandry.

I keep on omf's and fork out a little drone comb every few weeks, if infestation is low I leave capped drone & if infestation looks high I remove comb and replace. Icing sugar dusting once a week or fortnightly works for me to keep phoretic mites low.

Three six day interval vapes has produced no more then approx. 300-500 mite count over the whole three vapes much on par with last years results.

I always treat regardless and a xmas/new year vape ready for the process to begin again.
