ok yes I have done the search, is there a reason why ordinary turps (the stuff to clean paint brushes) isnt used. Cant find out the answer.

Ordinary Turps (the stuff to clean paint brushes) is used!!!

Just not Turpentine substitute - because thats not really turps.

Turps is from pine.

Turps substitute is petroleum based (White spirit?) - and it smells bad etc

The main problem is finding a place that offers anything other than turpentine substitute.

Try a trade supplier for paint, ie Dulux center, or Lyland paints.

you should be able to get turpentine from any art shop, google art discounts

Rustins does pure turpentine. Check online or your local DIY.

I am about to attempt my first go at making polish.

Have read up on forum but was wondering what people have found easiest and "fool-proof", (referring to me of course) way of getting it right!!

Try 'Decorating Direct' online store for best price on pure Turps. Only trouble is you have to get 7.5 litres to qualify for free delivery, but it's a lot cheaper than from an art shop. Also T****** also sell pure turps, I think when I was checking out prices it was the second cheapest (after DD)
