good point oliver yes that covers me for work and play too.

yes i can get cheaper insurance through the bbka but i stand against there policy of money from chemical suppliers

also inmy mine its not the insurences that have stopped the forming of a new bee club its the time and effort that kills it for most

Got my beekeeping insurance through the BBKA and SBA and professional insurance from elsewhere where they were very keen to stress that they wouldn't cover beekeeping when I made a tentative enquiry.

Is this because they have so many members or is it because you don't want to be associated with the BBKA? Our association is bursting at the seams and I think there may be a cap put on new members soon because the organisation cannot cope with so many people.

Join the local Dinosaur club, not on your life, we all know how they end up.

How does the PL insurance help with play HP ? I have 5 mil but thought it only covered work. hmmm best go and have a read :)

I simply cannot believe that there are associations that will refuse membership. Surely it would not mean much more work from the secretary.

well the excuss i got was when they were having training days on the hives they could not cope with the turn out of people shame

no i did want to join i even went to one of there meetings they were quick enough to ask for the membership money up front that what i found a bit pushy

Just to baulk the trend , my local BBKA (Chichester) have run an excellent beginners' course, provided a local very supportive mentor and been very supportive with an all day of lectures to prepare for basic beekeeping certificate. Clearly it depends up on local folk generously giving of their time.

Silly question, who are the BBKA's insurers for product liability etc?

Not at all interested in BDI.

Our house insurers took a week or so and said OK to PL insurance of 1 mill. with no extra premium...worth asking...

I enquired about training courses a few years ago at my local association and got told they are all full and we have a waiting list. (i.e tough luck) was the impression I got that they didn't want to know about any more new members.
I have since spoken to some members of said association and I still get the same impression and an attitude of we're right and your wrong when it comes to beekeeping. So I've gone it alone and have had no problems and am enjoying the experience.

Just to inject a note of fairness here {ducks and covers**, surely it's obvious that BKAs can only offer limited spaces on courses? If you can only get 1 person to run a training course and you have 100 people wanting to do it......
Also, BKAs are just groups of people - the way they operate is dicated by the members and the committee. If those who want change never join up and get involved then you can hardly be surprised that they never change.

:iagree: I would the same is true of the BBKA, change is always easier from the inside.
