How close to a hedge can you go?

I think you can get very close, one of my colonies faces a bush which is only 30 cm away. If you watch the bees they come in like Harrier Jump jets with a vertical land. That's before the bloody government got rid of them that is. (the jets not my bees though they would if they could no doubt)
