Phone to Ari Seppälä. He has lots International connections. Very smart and pleasant man.

Google search says he's the beekeeping advisor to Finland. I also noticed some academic papers he'd published on researchgate

He is not working at University. He is running big beekeeping company with his wife and boy. The wife has agricultural university background like Ari. No time to academic research. Plus national advisor's work.

He is top advisor in varroa too. A guy full of huge experience.

OK Finman. You have to understand that there are laws here too. You can't just decide to adopt a different practice just because someone in another country advocates it on the internet. The correct way would be to assess the evidence from a competent body and change the law, if indeed the evidence supported a change

No I do understand that you have laws there. Amazing!!!!

And I cannot change your legislation. ... Cannot understant that either

I read from English law book that there are two kind of laws: Natural laws and human laws. You cannot change natural laws but you can change human laws.

And who heck is changing laws after forum discussion?

But if you spread AFB spores with boots, and law says so, it is better believe then.
Even if it is totally rubbish.

Australia has a burn policy, in the U.S. some states use antibiotics others burn. In Canada, sorry cut and paste but relevant:

It is very important to note that antibiotics are not a cure or treatment for AFB infections. Antibiotics may only inhibit the infection taking place since they affect the vegetative stage of AFB and inhibit the development of AFB in the gut of the larvae. This may prevent AFB from rapidly multiplying within a colony. Antibiotics have no impact on AFB spores. Therefore, once a colony is infected with high levels of spores it is too late. Beekeepers not using antibiotics should take extra precautions to monitor colony health.

Colonies found with AFB will be ordered to be destroyed - do not try to salvage an infected colony and infected comb. This behaviour will prolong the infection and will likely result in more colonies becoming infected. Early destruction and intervention is critical. All infected honey bees must be killed and all wax comb and accompanying frames in the colony, including all brood frames, foundation and honey frames and bottom boards, must be destroyed by fire. Only certain wooden ware may be salvaged if thoroughly sterilized by scorching. This includes wooden supers, inner covers, telescoping lids and queen excluders.

Bit like UK policy on Foot and Mouth disease...slash and burn. Most other countries vaccinate their cattle. There is a financial angle involved somewhere but buggered if I know what it is; seeing as one of the main vaccine producers is at Pirbright in Surrey.

This is going off topic but vaccinated and non vaccinated cattle and sheep can become carriers of the virus. 30 - 40 pence per vaccine I believe.

.
Perhaps we in Finland think that beekeeping and AFB is not so big reason that you can go to someone's home and start to burn property.

Finland will not collapse even if we do not have beehives at all.

With our system we get good yields and we does not need to pay to the army of inspectors.... Odd hobby inspecting. You should stop such beekeeping which does not make profit.

If we have pyroman oriented people, they love to burn human houses and flats.

That can only infect non vaccinated animals.
So we eradicate diseases like small pox via vaccination. But enjoy our cattles susceptibility to viruses by not vaccinating. I guess there will be sensible answer out there somewhere.
