I started with the Giordan 8 frame drill driven exctractor:

Both extractors are well made and reliable, but with only 3 to 6 hives I think the former would be better value for you, although a motor would be better than a drill-driven extractor which would require you to keep pressing the button until the job is done (go and have a coffee). You may find you have 20-30 hives in a year or two and wish you had bought a bigger extractor!.

The Lyson is well-made and excellent value and fine for National frames, but be warned, if you change to Langstroth, Dadant (or Manley National) you will find that not all brands of frame will fit it and the tangential screens will not work with Langstroth / Dadant brood frames (fine with ordinary National or 14x12.)
Also, the Lyson has a gap near the spindle so honey will run onto the motor if you do not leave the honey gate open (easy to avoid).

Abelo sell them.i have the 20 frame one and its really good.i made a base on wheels to move it around as its rather large to lift and squeeze between doors.

I have the 20 frame job which is very similar and excellent. The only draw back I've found is if you let too much honey accumulate in the bottom so it touches the bottom of the frames the drag slows it down. I love having the 10 speeds. I balance the frames up using speed 3 and then gradually increase to 9 or 10. The acceleration is gradual, which is a great advantage. My old Universal motorized 9 frame went from 0-3(max) in a few seconds and resulted in many frames collapsing due to the sharp acceleration.
If you go to too fast too soon and are imbalanced there is safety cut out to a lower speed...oh and it has a brake, so when you stop it slows down really fast. My old one used to wizz round for ages after stopping the motor.
Not sure if the 12 frame is large enough to extract full brood frames but I can extract 8 National sized brood frames at a time in the 20 frame without having to get tangential screens.
Other thing to watch out for is whether they take Manley sized frames. Mine won't but I think the more recent models do, so ask about this or bin your Manley's.

I'm also curious about this - for the £300 difference in price between this and the other Lyson 12 frame extractor there must be some over and above moving the motor and drive mechanism from the bottom to the top. Presumably the materials are also thinner and the overall construction is less sturdy?

The dimension also doesn't seem to match anything from the Minima range on the Lyson website - perhaps they've taken one of the tangential extractors and changed the cage to make it radial?

Why not ask the suppler whats the difference is.
