Lancing... used to go flatty bashing around the Hove sewer outfall when I woz a kid...
when I could snorkell to 15 meters for 3 minutes on but a single breath!!

No problem selling them on the beach!!

Snorkeling near the sewer erghhh:ack2:

he middle reaches of the river support a good mixed coarse fishery, with species such as Roach, Dace and Chub present.

The upper tidal reaches also have good mixed coarse fishing, including bream, carp and pike. In the lower tidal section, mullet, bass and flounder can also be encountered.

The River Adur also supports a good annual run of sea trout, which migrate in from the sea during summer months and spawn on the gravel beds in winter.

That explains why Hopits so full of sh*t,:puke:........:laughing-smiley-014....

Only joking Hopit,i think your great really....lol..:smilielol5:

its ok

im sure he knows u were as i think he means the shoreham power station outflow at hove not the sewer but it could have been the sewer as they are quite close to each other.

Did you tell the TAX man? :smilielol5:

If my accountant thought for one second (any yes he has got some free honey from me) i could make a claim for my hobby as a beekeeper, i have no doubt at £80 an hour he would be more than happy to look through my receipts for me and make a claim.

But alas, i can claim no more for my beekeeping hobby than i can for my beer drinking hobby, and as i pay % of my wage in the higher tax band, im more than sure the TAX man is more than happy with my yearly returns even if i leave out the £300 i made from honey this year.

With a hobby you cant claim tax, once you sell things it becomes a taxable income, any things you buy eg extractors, frames etc comes out of the profit and you pay tax on the money you have left. Hivemaker, it doesnt matter which tax bracket you are in you still should pay tax on you £300!!!! Im not suggesting for a second you go off to your accountant but if some on here are questioning ebay sellers and reporting for incorrect labels COME ON!

Carlisle is a great city, little cold for the bees so selling up and moving to portugal to pay tax on tonnes of honey NOT!

AFAIK taxman not in the slightest bit interested in proceeds from a "hobby". For example, you could sell as much stuff on ebay as you like if it is your possessions or stuff you have an excess of. Taxman becomes interested when you buy materials for selling on.

The French tax authorities certainly would be interested and we have to register for business to sell one pot of honey - however we only pay an annual fixed tax per hive up to 40 hives and two fixed annual "taxes" for between 40 and 200 hives. After 200 hives they slaughter you in true French fashion.

Definitely the Hove sewer outfall... I never ate the fish.. sold every one!!

The Shoreham out fall was warm water and was a good place for Jonh Dory ( Zeuz faber) and triggerfish !!

Watched them whilst scuba diving......

BTW the Adur and the Arun are excellent for fishing

From the BBC news site:

Tax and the self employed
Should you be paying money on your honey?
The key thing to remember about tax is that if you make money at something the chances are it is liable to tax.

A lot of people have hobbies, sidelines or freelance work they think won't be liable to tax - but this is wrong.

If you are buying and selling items on a market stall or sell lots of honey as a beekeeper, you're carrying out a trading activity and it is liable to tax.

The number of commercial beekeepers in the uk is small indeed . There is a good reason for this . the number of colonies plus the requirement for value added ;sales of wax ,polishes etc puts it out of reach for most of us .
Taxes are paid on profits .
If you were to carefully list all your outgoings , depreciation of equipment , education cost transport , society fees plus other incidentals , you'd better hide them from the wife :D
I've seen 40 hives quoted as the break even number but aspire to nowt like that figure :).

And what £300 are you on about.

So if a hobby like i mentioned earlier about the grouse shooting,as long as you sell a couple of grouse, you can claim back most of your costs from the inland revenue....it's a buisness then:rolleyes:

Did you tell the TAX man? .........................

Come on!

Most of the Shoreham dabbing and crab fleet were on the Rock'n Roll...

probably all gone now with the fishing quotas, cost of diesel, cost of moorings etc etc!

even more reason to be doing ur tax return if you can get a tax rebate cose ur making a loss then why arnt u claiming it back.

the taxman would be quick enough to prosecute if u didnt tell him of a profit and he found out so make sure u get what ur owed. also dont forget that you can claim back 6 years worth of expenditure and income in the first year you tell them.

for some people this could amount to thousands im sure.

looking at the website they are doing ok lol lol

So spend say 70,000 on a nice pair of purdey shotguns, and the inland revenue will give you back 14,000 towards your purchase, and perhaps a bit more cash to pay for you to go grouse shooting, which of course you will sell, but at a dead loss.

Wish I could claim back some of the cash I've spent on guns, ammunition, gunsmiths, fishing tackle, clothing, club fees, licences, hunt subscriptions, range fees, shooting rights, corn for the ducks, dogs, hounds, ferries to Ireland other transport and beekeeping equipment (what I've actually spent not what Mrs J thinks I have !!).
I think one of my shooting friends whose a financial adviser would have told me and all his other mates.
I believe that there is a concession which means you can earn a fair chunk through your 'hobbies' etc without declaring it quite how much I'm not sure.

I agree,i believe my accountant would of imformed me as well,i have been self employed and running my own buisness for 36 years now.....and have never been imformed you can get a tax rebate on money you spend for a hobby..think Dpearce is confused.
