Considering the number of hive/nuc thefts we're hearing of, surely it's not beyond the collective wit of members of this forum to devise a simple security system that would deter if not prevent billy burglar from nicking our bees? Yes, I know the most attractive ideas are probably illegal - anything effective AND legal we can think up and design?

nope they are all back on you tube, its just when we reloaded them all alot of the old links to the videos section were broken, try youtube and hedgerowpete, they are all on there even the ideas that are a lot iffy and no where near legal.

admin was going to sort them all out but i have had him slaving over a hot computer for a few days building me a new fan club website

What I do is first make the hive stand this year double hive stands with longer legs then bury them into the ground say 12” then screw the floor to the stand and finally a strap round the hive and stand.

The strap stops vandals pushing the hive over and the screwing of the floor to the stand will make it inconvenient for any theft. God forbid that it happens but would love to see the expression on the face when they realise the bees are about them.

Non of it is bullet proof and makes moving a hive for me inconvenient but a spare floor on site will help.

HP videos appeared whilst I was writing this post having looked at the first two obviously on similar wave lengths

But part four was the best, Pete!
Had been wandering down the 'personal attack alarm' road myself, along with a wildlife night camera if only I can hide it where it can't be seen and nicked as well!
Oh - and Smartwater - already done. Though it's the Smartwater signs that are the biggest deterrent and they won't see them at night.

But doesn't allow for the b........ that opened hives with colonies of bees in cluster -took every frame and left an empty shell of a hive each time - Happened near here in Sussex.
Beekeepers!! Had to be.

Just off to Smartwater the frames as well as the boxes. Gordon Bennett whatever next?
