Hi All, I will be lurking for a while as we will not start bee keeping until the Spring, I have been on a day course....loved it and even over came my fear of bee's ( Epipen in hand ) , I bought a National Hive and have loads of equipment ready for this exciting hobby.
I also got 9 Manuka tree's delivered today....3 years old...only tiny though...hopefully they will survive the Winter and thrive in our Orchard :)

Welcome don't hesitate to ask any questions esp in a thread your struggling to follow. Once the bees grab you there's no turning back.

Welcome.... you have a lot to learn!

Before Admin/ Hivemaker stamps all over me... can I just say that the plural of bee is bees
the bees live in a hive, and since it belongs to them... it is the bee's hive.
The bees in the hive are called a colony.

If you need to carry an EPIPEN you would be advised NOT to keep honeybees until such a time that you have been desensitised... from 3 to five years treatment... or for life
Each file of bee venom for updosing costs the NHS £45 therefore they do not waste it on those who do not require it.

Adrenaline ( EPIPEN )is used to treat rapid lowering of blood pressure ( SHOCK) and should ONLY be used if prescribed... use on someone with a undiagnosed condition could cause.

:spy:Apologies if this seems a harsh reply to you first post... I trust it was not serious....

Hello and :welcome: To the forum! I'm in the same position as you, not starting up til the spring. Get involved in discussions etc there's a lot to learn on here!

When I use the name Bee in my forum name....I am referring to myself
I have to say that I certainly hope that the rest of the members here refrain from such an unfriendly 'welcome'

Who said that my Epipen is supplied by the NHS?

I don't think that is what he meant. I believe icanhopit was referring to the bee sting desensitisation courses the NHS do. They administer bee venom to reduce the body's reaction to it. That's what costs the NHS £45 per vial.

Quite seriously I have no intention of being unwelcoming or unfriendly.... however when one has experienced a tragedy concerning bee stings.... and also of the misuse of drugs being administered by the unwary, it is no laughing matter.

Please be aware that Eppipens are NOT a cure all for any form of anaphalaxis

I really can not say anymore.

:welcome:To the forum and bees from Okehampton.

If you are around Oke. the local branch is very friendly.

Welcome..... Good luck with the manuka trees. My bees don't touch mine! Honey from them apparently tastes awful anyway! Give them back and buy lime trees instead! :)

Hi from north devon,
Hope you realise this is not a hobby it's an addiction.

Hello and welcome and that's from me being only a very new bee... :) Good ole 'debon', I'm originally from the North part. Miss it but never go back.
