I've never used these, and likely never will given that they're quite badly damaged. I thought they might be travel screens, but they have wax moth damage which seems unlikely on a travel screen. Any other ideas?

Is that mesh ? They look like some crownboards I inherited with a WBC - there were some with glass and some with mesh - I assumed the mesh ones were intended as a misplaced idea for ventilating hives (bearing in mind the construction of WBC's with the outer lifts protecting the boxes).

I wondered initially if they were mesh floors but the WBC they came with had a solid floor so they would not work ...

looks like punched galv 'mesh' extensively used instead of glass in pantry windows and meat safes.
Yes - we had a meat safe at the top of the cellar steps when I was a kid - no fridges or freezers in those days - in summer Mum would drape a wet tea towel over it to keep temperature down. We used to shop locally and almost daily for fresh food so there was usually only butter, cheese and bacon in the meat safe with the occasional cut of meat waiting to be cooked or a fresh caught rabbit.

The punched galvanised mesh was used for all sorts of things like that - did someone decide it would be good ventilating a beehive ?

I guess they could have been travel screens left on after travel...probably so long that the colonies died and were taken over by wax moth?

Possibly. I'd like to think that even I would remember to remove a travel screen after moving a hive though.

Yes, and to remember to tend to it to prevent a wax moth infestation taking hold , but I guess even beekeepers suddenly get sick and/or die...

You mean we don't all die at the age of 127 in a bizarre naked sky-diving accident whilst strapped to a person of the opposite/appropriate sex?

Damn! Did they lie to me about that on the beginners course too?

I'm constantly surprised at what I forget with the bees. For a while I kept finding some frames missing in some of my hives .
The other thing with moving hives, which we do a lot here to get to different nectar flows, they are big colonies (otherwise not worth moving) and then somewhat grumpy with being locked up and bumped around, so sometimes you don't feel like taking the travel screen off immediately . I've got a travel screen on a colony at the moment waiting to move it.....mustn't forget. I'm the only person that knows about it.
