I thought they were from Greek Mythology with some references to Asia Minor.

Yep, Herodotus puts them beside Sarmatia (modern Ukraine) in the Histories. But then he also records dog-headed men, so may have had a few when he was writing it... :cheers2:
 
Haynes - good but sloppy

As a beginner I found this book generally really good - lots of good illustrations unlike most beekeeping books that don't seem to have any photos taken since 1950.
The only criticisms I have are that it could have been better proof read. The kgs to lbs conversion in one section is all over the place and makes it difficult to follow (p106). There is also a part on nectar collection that seems to suggest bees will favour lower sugar concentrations. (p105) - I would be interested to see how others read that, it may be my lack of experience.

For text and content I have still found de Bruyn the best but it desperately needs new photos. (also has typos in the table of frame areas).

Anyone else spotted the queen marking colour error?
