One of my Uncles is a dairy farmer and his son (my cousin) is currently very keen on installing an anaerobic digester to deal with some of the slurry etc. produced by the dairy herd and any beef cattle they happen to have from time to time. I gather that there may be some form of part funding grant available (in Northern Ireland) to install the kit. Porterswoods, it may be worth checking up on grant funding in your neck of the woods although the opportunity may be unique to NI - it may even be part of a rural diversification scheme.

From memory the digester took its gas supply from the bilges

My bilges are far too clean for that - I send a man down to clean them regularly!

Was a bit worried by that.... do not think any sane sailor would want to sit atop bilges full of inflamable gas

Plenty of that on the messdeck in the evenings - hot air and methane, volatile mix!
