I have just finished raising the conopy on a willow and have come across bees in a hollow branch. Can anyone tell me if it is viable for my new hive (new to this).Have only seen about a dozen bees on the wing but then again it has been raining.Pics attached.

Thanks
Stephen

I don't have any idea but I'm sure someone much more experienced than me will be along shortly to answer.

Told you i was new opps thanks

I think they could be "apis mellifera veryshy".

If you can find them I would get them, they are very rare!!! :)

Just joking.

Brian.

ok we have all had a good laugh including me :)

It looks like a trunk that has been attacked by some wood boring insect (possibly goat moth by the size) and the trunk is now rotting.

In the first picture, I think it is a wasp and they are probably chewing the soft wood for construction of their own nests.

Just a possibility.
