I'm assuming these talks are not free of charge and that there is a fee. It then becomes a commercial venture IMO and should not be using the forum to advertise.
commercial ?
if reducing a loss is commercial then its commercial.
A typical fee is around £30 to £50 plus mileage. If we (as both elaine and myself present) have to stay overnight, we get to stay in a the luxury of a travelodge. Most of the the time we dont charge for an evening meal or breakfast. That means the fees cover the incidentals like having to find somewhere to eat at 6.30pm before the talk.
My research is self funded. The equipment for the first set of experiments and buying a few research papers cost around £900 and took about 600 hours of effort. The background research in to the bees is at least another 2000 hours, the preparation of the presentation to date must be over 200 hours. I wont add the vast amount of effort that has gone into getting the paper written and published
each presentation will be 3 to 24 hours travelling time plus 3 hours in front of people...I gets lots of questions.
if after incidental expenses are taken out of the fees, for the sake of argument lets say we on average net £10.( i doubt its that high, but lets go with that. Note:we made significant net losses on SBA and BBKA despite fees of £60).
I might present this research say 30 times taking an average of 8 hours of time each.
Then this commercial venture has taken 3000 hours to make a loss of £600.
There was never any intention to make money so I'm not disappointed.
.
The next phase of my research has cost me more than £3000 so far.
Does this sound like a commercial venture? if it is that means I cant talk about my research or my views on insulation as they are my "product". That is effectively a ban
or does it sound more like a research charity
