Sold my old extractor and now looking for a new one. Seems as though I have to be careful which ones take Langstroth frames. Is this correct? Some on the well known selling website are for frames 16cm x 40 and Langstroth are 48cm so just a bit confused now.
Also seen this one http://www.bees-online.co.uk/detail.asp?ID=572&name=9-Frame-Manual-Extractor and again not sure if it will take Lang frames
Any advise would be great

that looks like a LEGA model if it helps.

Sold online with red or blue legs.

......... which ones take Langstroth frames............

The one linked to (resin cage and for sale in Glos.?) will certainly not take Langstrot frames, it would probably be easy enough to adapt by using longer rods to get more distance between the top and bottom of the cage, if you already owned one. But otherwise why bother?

I bought one of these recently...http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Stainless-steel-honey-extractor-4-frames-HONEY-SPINNER-bee-4-honeycombs-/371061238933?hash=item5664f92c95:g:viQAAOSw3xJVeATe

It's described as taking frames 20x40 but it is actually much bigger. The height from the bottom of the basket to the underside of the gearbox crossmember is 495mm. I don't use Langstroth but looking at the frame size online, it would seem to fit. And don't forget that the lug you place downwards, drops lower than the bottom of the basket which also works in your favour.

You'd be best to drop them a line ask them to measure the bottom of the basket to the underside of the crossmember.

Seems to be a variety of prices for similar thing. When I bought mine two weeks ago it was 140.

That is not a cheep (for the birds) extractor of chinese origin.

Looks like a Lega, which have not retailed at the silly price quoted for years.

if a Lega it will (I expect), as clearly stated, take all shallow frames. Just that it will hold less extracted honey than with the cage set shorter.

The last place mine came from was Germany, it will hold eight national super frames and four standard brood frames with ease, it will also hold around 15 litres of honey before it needs to be emptied, but if i was on a huge honey production level like yourself i could just leave the gate valve open and let it drain and filter into the settling buckets while spinning, it's not hard to work out is it.

Unlikely a Lega then? Not if (supposedly) made in Germany. Lega are Italian.

Also, I never yet seen an eight frame Lega on the market. Open to enlightenment if there is.

Btw, don't you mean shallows and deeps? Some use deeps as supers. I've even used 14 × 12 frames as supers. My Lega will only extract three of those at a time.

Unless the extractor is fixed to the floor (as many are not) leaving the honey valve open may not be a good idea. Maybe you have never experienced a blown frame in an extractor. One might even question the fittingvof a honey valve, if it is not required!

Modified by adding sliding stainless steel loops to hold the lugs on the top bars of the super/shallow frames.

Out of interest what make is it? I'm contemplating forking out for an extractor having experienced the bun-fight for association equipment following OSR and a tangential-cum-radial seems like a nice compromise given the small number of hives I have.

It does not have a name that i know of but here is a link for flebay, the only gripe i have with it is the way the cage pivots on one ball bearing in a fixing in the bottom of the tank, if you get one just remember to take the cage out and dry the ball bearing and the hole it sits in after cleaning it out.

It is the same as this that T's are selling but a tad cheaper.
