But many studies, including our own project of small cell combs, show that small cell by itself doesn't control Varroa. However Lusby said from the start that it is 1/3 genetics, 1/3 small cell and 1/3 correct nutrition.

One thing is for sure and that is we are witnessing evolution in action:
Varroa vs Apis mellifera and **** sapiens. Looks like the last 2 are loosing the battle. However, were Varroa be allowed to wipe out its host, it itself would be destroyed eventually.

:iagree:

Trouble is that there are dogmatic people on both sides of the argument. Like blackcavebees I believe in God and am a Christian - I'm not a creationist but I believe we were created. I also believe in some kind of evoloution.
Someone once said to me that the Boeing 747 evolved since the first one yes, but it didn't do it itself - it had a helping hand :)
I too am out of this debate - and I don't know how my bees are 'cos I'm stuck in Dartmouth paying marina prices for my internet access cos my dongle's thrown it's hand in!! But I'm sure the bees will be fine 'til I get home Tuesday

Not sure why the creationist/intelligent design nonsense in the US is polluting the UK? I don't believe in God, but I don't care if people do. Just keep religion out of science teaching, oh, and the House of Lords :)

Of course not. Varroa does better and better

Varroa get numerous generations during a year and its evolution is faster than bees'

Vain hope...

But varroa standing bees stocks have emerged in Europe. Varroa has not in any country wiped out beehives. It just mgive more work to beekeepers.

But nowadays, is it easier to treat varroa than suffer from other odd features which antivarroa bee stoks have in honey industry.

. Some strains are mad to nurse. Crossings with other strains do not make it easier.

Big pinch of salt, language and definitions apart, there is plenty of honey production going on with AMM across the Northern Hemisphere and probably elsewhere.

:iagree:
AMM believers are a minority sect but I have faith the non believers will come into the fold over much of her original range eventually.

Asked a vegetarian natural beekeeper atheist acquaintance yesterday "What did Varroa evolve from and is Elvis still alive ?"

She answered GOD KNOWS !

I'll get me coat

Lot of AMMs about...
eventually if the Frankinsteiners stop meddlin the Buckfarts will diminish into oblivion.........

Buckfarts type bees are not a species.. they are a hybrid and the result of mans ingenuity in attempting to get a better bee... unsustainable on their own as the mix is against natures intentions

however I hear that Woolly Mammoth DNA has been found and there is an AI breeding programme being initiated to bring it back using Africanised elephants cross bred with Burmese elephants as the new variety of elephant will survive better in zoos in the north of Finland!

There is a need for an understanding of how mans dominion over the planet has caused change and the cause of extinctions of some species and the rapid extinction of others...... introduction of a foreign species ( OR MODIFIED MONGREL) does not it seem cause the total extinction of the the one it displaces as nature appears to want to keep the genepool viable

Hence Soay sheep ... { probably more AMMs than Soay sheep tho!}

Or in Ireland out of the primary schools  Around 94% of them are owned and under the patronage of the Catholic church who I have learned this year can access classroom time as they wish. There is now an increase in priestly visits in our area due to a mild mannered suggestion from one or two in the government that secular education may be preferable. That really set the crucifixes jangling....:hairpull:

Only problem with triple brood in the North of Finland is that the woolly mammoth on the bottom gets squashed ...

Heads for cover:ohthedrama:

Beefalo

hybrids of bee and wolf?

Beefalos are a fertile hybrid offspring of domestic cattle, Bos taurus, and the American bison, Bison bison (generally called buffalo in the US). The breed was created to combine the characteristics of both animals with a view towards beef production.

You are correct about them not being a species, they are not even a subspecies, race or geographical population. You do need to understand the differences.

How can you possibly know nature's intentions? Even nature makes mistakes, you only have to drive around for an hour to see many of them and might be forgiven for thinking aloud "My God, is that really the sperm that won!"

Are you sure thats not what people think when they pass by you ?
