Yesterday I discovered an embalmed Deaths Head Hawk Moth in the bottom of one of my hives! That’s a first for me…

Not common but we see them occasionally down here on the South coast.

They are brilliant honey thieves. I have UFE and this one was trying to get in via the OMF

I think it must’ve come through the entrance- I keep a block in permanently, so it’s pretty small. Must be very sneaky!

We found something similar one spring on the floor of One of our hives.

Thats a lovely creature. The markings on its abdomen make it look like a giant bee. I wonder if they use the colony as protection as well as a food source?
