You can sell away unproper furnitures with bees.

Many professional have bought other's apiaries and continue like nothing has happened.

You NEED half a frame or so of spare space in a box when the frames are new as they can take up a good bit more when there is wax and propolis on the shoulders. Also if they get damp for whatever reason they can get very tight. We just leave any extra space equally divided between the two outside spaces and NEVER us dummy boards.

Agreed, the space will soon become less significant, when I started I used to use a follower board but it really became quite a pain to use.

Where you can come up against some more significant inconveniences is how high the frames sit in the box. The lugs of international standard Langstroths are thicker and stronger than UK lugs, so the frames sit a fraction higher than UK ones and beespaces can be corrupted leading to cussing when separating boxes

This is the biggest problem I have found with langstroth hives, I decided to use manufacturers that produce a thicker top bar that works with all of my equipment and causes less bee space issues.

Glad I burned the Langstroths and stuck with Nationals... at least made to a BRITISH standard!:ulstersmilie:

Whatever happened to the Union flag!!

I wish I had not made that unthinking comment... the Langstroths boxes that me and my beekeeping buddy committed to the firey furnace were used to boil frames in lye, they were rotten and not in any way fit for purpose in keeping bees.....
this throw away comment has been taken and quoted, totally out of context
No offense was intended.

:sorry:

Mann Lake UK which is now Bee-Equipment.

But it's still ML gear as far as I can tell. Identical stuff before and after the name change.

I can get take some more measurements for you if you're interested. External and internal dimensions etc
