I had that problem as well but soon sorted with an air rifle

had two on my feeders last week, shot them with the 12 bore at night, girlfriend held the torch on them, what was more worrying is that the next-door neighbour didnt even come out to see what all the fuss was.

We have rats with fluffy tails on our feeder ... unfoirtunately, they are so entertaining I can't bring myself to kill them ... the only thing they are frightened of are the rooks ... little beggars eat some of the sunflower seeds and then bury the rest in the lawn !!

No evidence of rats, but 60 squirrels less today.. Husband and elderly mother watching one on bird feeder when it 'fell off' .Well, how was I to know they were watching it...she didn't realise it was 'pushed'. Have had the blasted things ripping wiring out of the loft, falling down chimney and running through my house... war declared.
Have voles in compost heap, now that's more like it.:hurray:

Make sure you dont leave any lead in the Kite food. Lead is lethal to BoP

That's worrying! I take it that wasn't the first time?

a few lads i know offer a rat killing service to farmers etc with air rifles and dogs.
they shot 54 rats in someones apiary last summer in 3 hours.

Lead is lethal to BoP

Only if propelled by twenty grains or so of good quality nitro gunpowder. The fallacy that a bit of lead shot in carrion will kill birds of prey is just the usual untruths peddled bt the RSPB and other clueless bunny hugging clowns

tie some string onto the feeder and set a good deep bin with some water right underneath it,next time the rats on the feeder drop him into the water.
Game over.

Darren

Do Irish rats not swim then?

Ours swim very well!

Careful, I got banned from a similar forum for that same idea.

Someone asked "how do I stop Grey squirrels digging up crocus bulbs? "

I said, "shoot them":winner1st:

Naughty. The correct answer is to plant them under a layer of chicken wire ;)

I usually plant them under a rock or, if they're tender youngsters, skin them, use their tails for fly tying, marinade overnight and have them on the BBQ

Nah, plant them anywhere the bunny huggers won't see them. Keep the wire netting for the crocuses.:biggrinjester:
