Came across this YouTube video this morning.



Good inspiration for anyone that builds their own national hives.

Nice build - if you have the time and the workshop facilities. If I was going to spend that much time making a hive from scratch then I would be making it in Cedar rather than pine but ... if I costed in my time and the electricity along with the materials I suspect that it would be considerably cheaper to but cedar seconds in the sales !

I have nothing but admiration though for someone making things from scratch like this.

If you were doing it - a circular hole for the feeder is a lot easier than a Porter bee escape hole and I'd make the roof twice as deep and put 50mm Kingspan in there.

...... in the end, if I had decided to make all my kit from scratch, I wouldn't be killing myself building national hives.
