Nope, keeping a fence powered is too much faff.

I will keep looking for a second site.

Badgers were there first, fairs fair.

.....its silly and misinformed tales such as this that I often hear trying to rubbish the protection wildlife deserves.Genuine breaches of the Wildlife & Countryside Act rarely reach the courts and when they do the fines are rediculously small.
The countryside is in a mess . . . . . . .!

Unfortunately it is the "Townies" that hold the majority vote! :cuss:
Those who live in the countryside, (and don't just visit for a Ramble) have to suffer ignorant "visitors";
parking wherever they choose, usually blocking others access,
leaving gates open,
closing open gates intended to be left open :banghead:
with the usual trail of detritus behind them.
Not content with their visits they oppose mobile phone masts or any changes that would "spoil their visit" no matter how desperate the need (of those who live here) for the provisions of 20th century infrastructure (mains gas or cheap petrol not to mention 21C-broardband) .

Some even move here (on their fat cat pensions10+ years ahead of those with proper jobs), then have the nerve to complain about "unsociable noises" that were in place before they were born( let alone left the suburbs), Curch bells, milking parlours, combining into the night, normal people working "early" on Saturdays/Sundays etc etc

:beatdeadhorse5:

Sorry, been building up to that!

On the other hand ,in my youth as a rambler I could tell when a farm was close by ,by stumbling across the farm tip , some having the proportions of fly tipping !
Also, fertiliser sacks ( plastic stuffed under the hedges not to say empty herbicide/ insecticide drums abandoned after aerial crop spraying . ) Been caught by a cloud of the stuff occasionally whilst fishing .
Certainly a two way street.

I agree, it really is a two way street, townies who move to the country are not the only ones who need to learn.
I regularly visit farms survying as part of a stewardship scheme and often find that the farmers have a fantastic knowledge of farming but little insight on what else lives and depends on the land they work.
Many take an interest and I hope do things slightly differently, others sadly blindly go along in the same old manner, holding their hands out for subsidies paid for in a large part by the townies they hate so much.
Funny old world

I would do as #⃣3 as I think that we should site apiaries where risks from predators are low to persecute one form of wildlife to sustain another should be avoided in my view, very sensible question I know it never easy to live I n harmony with nature but we should try.

I've just realised that there is an occupied sett about 50m from my apiary. I've known it's there for over 30 years but completely forgot about it!! They are so unobtrusive you wouldn't know they were there unless you went looking for them.

I do think certain species are over protected. Pine Martens are a prime example. Lovely to look at but when a marten visited our hen house one night there were 7 fatalities and only 1 survivor. A breeding pair had arrived in the area, nothing to do with me but they are not here anymore.

Stumbled off the footpath did you?????? :nono:

No not by any means . Most established rights of way pass close to farm buildings some even through the farm yard, one I know passes the farm kitchen window!
Probably established to link homesteads without hindrance !

:iagree:
Very common here

I would think they were very necessarily included in the enclosures act .
So as to allow freedom of movement when the thieving land grabbers got the go ahead to snatch what they could in the time scale given .
Just look at some of the almost perpendicular stone walling ,just to grasp the last possible bit of almost inaccessible upland !
Worry not country folks ,these paths aren't sacrosanct ! A change is on the way to ' speed up the process of divertence ' by excluding local government of their input!

Too true .but land ownership is essentially theft ! Not that freehold is really ownership :) you can think the land is yours bought and paid for only to find it incurs , a chief rent, if glebe land the upkeep of some church establishment not necessarily close to the land in question . It will have exclusions on the removal of sand ,gravel, coal, oil and fracking gas etc!
"Whose land is it then?"
I had a freehold property which was " chief rented" to Haigh parish church ! Chief renting is apparently a Northern thing .
Finally until it was scrapped, schedule ' A' tax was payable on freehold properties , leasehold was except which often meant the freeholder paying far more than the lease holder with a peppercorn rent !
Funny old world!

We have to strap the hives down at Kew Gardens to form some protection from badgers as it looks like the badger are becoming townies and they have a set within the grounds.

There is a badger sett on the golf course by my apiary . I haven't seen any signs of activity around my hives !
Come to think of it I haven't seen any activity by badgers at all . Golfers/ badgers , maybe the badgers have been encouraged to move on one way or t'other!

I have a Badger sett about 25M away from my hives on the opposite side of a 3M high bank of soil. Touch wood there have been no problems so far although occasionally I do see them in amongst the hives in the twilight. They certainly make enough noise!

There is a stream between my apiary and the golf course but I shouldn't think this would contain them !

MMM, Interesting.

Presumably you wouldn't mind a gathering for a picnic on your front lawn, all leaveing whatever they couldn't be bothered to take back with them.
Even take photos and make notes on how you are tending to your home and garden. :paparazzi: :paparazzi::paparazzi:
Then report any "unsightly changes", they believe have been done in detriment to the appearance of your property, TV receiver, telephone cables maybe even (horror of horrors) a satellite dish)!

It is indeed an interesting world. :spy:

P.S.
Some "Farmyard Impressions";
"Get orrff my land"!
"Get orrff that Fu<£!*g Tractor"!
