Surely if you have an epipen youve been told by a doctor how and when to use it. Theres a big difference to having a moderate reaction to a bee sting and anaphalaxis. I agree read some older posts of peoples experiences. It is sobering but rare.

The venom load in bee stings vary with the age of the bee.

Yes I think they're more potent around 19-21 days old.

I thought that might be the reason for more severe reactions, but also if they hit a certain muscle or nerve.

After 28 days the venom load reduces, so your observation is correct.

Im.in year 4 as a (poetaster) beek.
Year 1 i got quite a bit and not so much as a swelling.
Year 2 I ballooned. Looked like a Picasso painting if stuck on the face. Hand, foot, whereever ballooned.
Year 3, same again but started really protecting myself. Still i got stung but not as much but would get swelling.
Year 4 - this year. Back to where I was. Hardly anything. Did get stung on the wrist and that swelled a wee bit but not much. Othere have been like nettle rash.

Not sure if this helps but certain the reaction changes as you assimilate.

WARNING : as others have mentioned, swelling is normal and NOT anaphylaxis. Such a condition should be totally in the hands of your doc.

Friend of mine expressed an interest in helping me out now and again with inspections.

He's on heart medication though, and was wondering if a sting might be harmful while he's on them. Anything to worry about?

Antihistamines are not good for people with high blood pressure. He should check it out IMHO.

Stings are not going to be as bad as a non prescribed dose of adrenaline which would probably be deadly!
