On the basis that here is advert free id be suspicious that you might have a bit of ad/malware lurking on your PC.

Update you virus guard, get a second opinion (if your main isn't MS security essentials it's as good as anything else out there and better than most) and run a full scan on both.

I block both popups and Flash by default. The first because they're annoying, the second because it's tended to be a good way to get malware into a PC. I'll take the minor annoyance at needing an extra click to run flash over the major annoyance at getting rid of malware any day of the week.

Obligatory suggestion to use a mac. (in at the end of a hopefully useful post to prevent the need for anyone else to chip in with one).

What I am seeing are occasional words highlighted in blue that show the pop up when the rest the mouse over them.

It’s a bit strange as I am only getting it on this site?

Not seeing anything here, though my PC is well locked down. I agree with Nellie. It seems you may have picked up some malware from somewhere.

Update your antivirus and do a full scan. Make sure you have pop-ups blocked. Stay away from Internet Explorer. It's junk. Firefox is better. Much safer.

Run combofix on your pc from bleepingcomputer dot com, that will probably fix it. Or hijackthis failing that.

There is a forum mod that allows this, but we'd all be seeing it if Mark had decided to quietly drop the no ads policy.

No-one else seems to be seeing it so it's probably something to do with Tom's PC.

Can you post a link to, or name, one of the threads you're seeing it on? Also tell us which words are highlighted. I doubt there's anything going on in the forum but I'd like to try different browsers with pop-up blockers off to see if I can see anything going on.

There is an extension to some browsers which highlights words and gives small pop-up windows and links to definitions and ads. I hate it. I can't remember what it's called but perhaps that has been installed or enabled on your PC.

just removed a program called babylon and premiumplay codec and the problem is solved

How did you remove Babylon?

It always leaves behind the Babylon toolbar which requires special sortware to remove

I use "spybot" - its quite good at getting rid of the extra toolbars that seem to get collected from time to time as well as the more nasty stuff. its spybot dot net, and don't be fooled into paying for something similar - this is free, but they do accept donations.
