Today it's very windy out in the back garden 12.6 c. its 07.20 and there are no bee's doing anything.

7.20 a.m. is very early for bees to be out at this time of year. In the Summer they will be out much earlier than this. Temperature AND lux levels influence bees leaving the hive in the morning.
I would not see mine at that time of day. No need to fret.

assuming we are talking a recently acquired nuc rather than full colony.

presumably you installed the nuc frames in the beehaus, perhaps with one or at most 2 frames of foundation and a dummy board?

or have you added a load of new frames?

bees would benefit from some space limitation while temps aren't great and they are a small colony.

i have worked a Dartington (the wooden version) and that had a division board rather than a dummy board to divide the 22 frame brood box into two seperative hives

we need to know the configeration, ie how many frames of brood/store/foundation each side of the division board

i have seen a 4 frame nuc just plonked into the middle of a dartington with 18 foundation frames ( 9 each side), needless to say the call was, "why has the expensive ver winter Nucuc of bees i have just bought died, i what you to help me sue the seller of the bees"

why sue anyone?

bee's are living things they need looking after?

did you look after them?????????

I bet you got up specially to look at them.

You'll find that if the temp is below 8c I doubt you will see them.

Above 8c and its bright they might be out.

If its 10/12c and dull, they might be thinking about it.

Add 4c to those temps if they are Italians (Apis mellifera lugistica), They just seem to stay at home and Eat

They were not mine to look after, i was callled out to see why they died, but the buyer having paid £240 for an over wintered Nuc last March, was miffed that 4 weeks later he had only dead bees, and in our litgation society he wanted me to give him the ammunition to sue the vendor

but he himself was to blame not the vendor of the bees

I've had mine since last June ... I feel deprived if I haven't looked at mine at least once a day ... and twice if I can ... and as for weekends - any excuse to have a walk past ....am I sad or what ?

You can't beat having a garden bench in the apiary to sit and relax in the sun while watching work going on.

its 7.35 4c out doors at the hive - nothing moving about. there is a dead bee on entrance to hive? What have i done wrong?

That's two of us.....husband thinks I am obsessed.
When I first got bees I used to dream about them....mostly about potential disasters. These dreams are fewer now:)

Nothing, 2 dead bees outside mine this morning, it's natural, bees die... Plenty more will be hatching inside to replace them! You don't see the actual numbers that die as the cleaner bees often fly them further away from the hive to dump them. Try not to worry so much! They are fine :)

You need to relax a little. Try to stop looking at them so early in the morning.

Bees die and are thrown out or chill and don't make it into the hive.
Nothing will be moving at 4c.

yes i realise this? i have to walk to the garage in the morning so i walk with in 30 foot of the hive and this is when i get a good look at them . i'm not opening them up its too cold
