Looks like a 6 colony double decker Langstroth hive, with movable divider boards and frames with side bars.
Sat board at the moment and i have been looking on the web at different hive pictures and i came across this, is it some kind of home made top bar hive.
How about a link to the picture!
Turned into a horizontal double deep hive with double deep frames cable tied together. Wouldn't like to work that one.
I'm not sure if this link will work for you.

I bet those frames and boxes will weigh a ton see how thick the walls are.
Ah! So I was right (post 6) - only three colonies, and extra-deep frames. You can actually see it in one of the pictures you've linked to.
You seem to be correct.. , i don't intend trying one out but does anyone on here keep this type of set up and if so how does this system compare with some of the bigger boxes like Dadant and Langstroth in poly format.
That'll be me then ...

Bees love it ... huge colony ... 14 x 12 frames in mine .. great as a brood donor or for doing splits ... triple wall construction with two layers of timber and a polystyrene core, insulated roof and kingspan on top of the crownboards.
I only ever run one colony in it ... not the biggest honey producer but there's a lot of honey in a filled out 14 x 12 frame that I use mostly for feeding new colonies or those needing a boost.
Easy to work the hive - you soon get used to lifting the frames out sideways and there's always plenty of room with up to 25 frames available. Need a fork lift truck to move it though !
