But Thornes is colour coded!

Mine has a block velcro'd'd in so it can be utilised for WBC boxes too!!!

Hi Millet,
They are made from scratch from my own design. I use them as single nucs initially then as doubles as I think they tend to draw wax better in the taller box and over winter the doubles in pairs under a single standard roof.

Hi Neil
thats a cracking job you made of those nucs its a neat idea that you are able to stack them,
what wood are you using and where did you source it from i can never find planks wide enough

i recently bought 20 cedar brood bodys 2nds £20 each couldn't make them for that price, i was thinking of converting them to nucs

John,

I get cedar planks straight off the saw mill from a small mill on the Sussex/Hants border about a mile from me.
The 12' x 3/4" x 9" plank which makes 2 brood boxes, cost me less than £12 inc. vat. I buy them 5 at a time and allow them to dry out for a few months. My brother runs them through his planer/sizer to get them to the exact size I require but when I first started I used to use them as they were.
I also get other thicknesses cut for the floors and roofs. I couldn't make money if I was to sell them as I don't have the machinery and room to run them off at speed but I enjoy disappearing "up the shed" for a few hours to play 😄.
Having said I don't sell them, there will be 4 of them in the WSBKA auction in April just to see what people will pay for them!

Finally getting round to updating the prototype honey drier, new very high torque double gear motor which revolves at 4rpm, new tub and frame made from 30mm 304 stainless steel box section, tub made from a sheet of 2x3 meter 304 stainless steel, all cut using plasma cutter. Still to polish up and make the lid which will also be fitted with a couple of gas rams to hold it open when needed.

Expert innovation!:winner1st:

What model of dehumidifyer are you using?
Our Dimplex 230W can pull out 10 liters a day.... ( usually much less... exposed surface extracted honey in "drying room")

but then we do not get the amount of heather as you do!

SWMBO says I have to finish ALL of the other "projects" before I can do some innovation of my own...

It uses a 50 liter per day dehumidifier piped through the drying discs and and then to a return pipe.

Bought myself a nail gun... tried it out and it makes light work of putting frames together....

Not going to be making loads of frames yet but will save allot of time and black finger nails....

Knocked up a few more hive stands - one at carreg apiary took a pasting in the summer so needs replacing and bringing home to be repaired - also need some more for a new apiary I've been offered
