What's happening tomorrow :spy:

Just moved two colonies into them, one of the old hives was in really bad condition with bees coming and going from everywhere. Had a heck of a job getting the frames out, they were welded in place on castellations.

The bees were very happy in their new home last inspection and they now have a super.

This week finished off a perspex crown board.

Used the timber from one of those cheap shoe racks and fixed with double-sided sticky tape. Hope it works OK.

I'd pop some little screws through it too if you can - pre drill the holes to stop the perspex cracking.

You give Crown boards a fair bit of stick taking them off if they're well propolised down, and I think double sided tape might not be up to the job.

Superglue and screws ... belt and braces ..

Building hives requires a firm stable working surface so I decided to go back to basics .

I've happened on a free shed , so it'll be erected at the apiary for keeping Supers in !
I'm toying with the idea of modifying the floor by inserting OMF type/sized mesh panels for over winter storage ?

Finally built 30 poly hives and first coat of paint today. Also got my son involved and he painted 15 wooden floors, really pleased with his help actually. Still loads to build but getting there, aching a lot though lol

Dismantled two T****e's roofs to replace the plywood as water and age has finished them off.

Made and waxed a few frames. Stan has been hammering and drilling in the workshop this morning telling me he was simply making" a thing of purpose". He's just appeared with two fold-up hive stands :)

That's very nice of him, you must be very happy :) i have painted, second coat on 30 BB and floors, pleased that's that bit finished!!

I change the two 40 watt light bulbs I used last year in my queen incubator with a heating element used in an egg incubator, glad to say that it works a treat.

Just made up a frame trapping queen excluder. I am having my first go at grafting soon and wanted to have larvae of a known age. It can also be used for varroa trapping as part of IPM, but does involve sacrificing a lot of brood.
Thrones sell one with a wire excluder for £50..
Made mine by cutting up two old plastic excluders, ( gone over to wire bought frameless in the sales), bought some strip wood and hinges. Total cost £3.
Not as pretty as their's but just as functional.

Phew! Just PVA's my last queen tower. 3 frame nucs stacked 3 together and double height. Fits under a standard national roof,
Had success with overwintering a couple of these so decided to expand.
Still need to sort out the floors
