I may be wrong - but they may be half beespace each side, so no worries
I’ve had colonies put brace comb between the double bee space treating the QE as though it didn’t exist .I have some of those and I have top space. Not an issue. I’m happy with them.
Yes. If I had bees doing that I’d change the crownboardI’ve had colonies put brace comb between the double bee space treating the QE as though it didn’t exist .
saw a space and filled it .
not many colonies have done this but when it happens it’s a pain .
Why change the crown board .the problem is between brood box and supers .Yes. If I had bees doing that I’d change the crownboard

nothing wrong with the stamped steel QXs - unless you believe the myth the hand wringers spout about them damaging bees' wingsThe bee space thing is the reason I don't use a framed Qx. With BB space, punched steel or plastic ones work just fine.............. now where did I put that tin hat?
I know, but I know very few beeks who use themnothing wrong with the stamped steel QXs - unless you believe the myth the hand wringers spout about them damaging bees' wings
Good idea. I’ve been using my hotbin compost stirrer (cleaned first obvs)Didn't have much time to spend in the workshop today, but made up a roof, and having found a few bits of scrap, made this:
which may never actually be necessary, but just allows me to check that my UFEs are clear if there's no sign of activity when I visit the hives through the winter.

After nearly two years of storing family furniture, today I was finally able to restore our multi-function work-play space (AKA garage). Our own stuff has accumulated over this period so that the space for TT is even more restricted. Not making excuses for losing our first game. No change there. I'm looking forward to using my new table saw, though it has taken me so long to get it, I'm afraid that I've already made (botched) most of the things that it would have been so useful for before.
Any hints on how to cut stainless steel mesh please? I have wire snippers but they're not up to the job. I'm thinking I might staple the mesh to a piece of wood and put it through my (new) table saw which has a universal blade.for years I kept all the little trimmings of mesh from making UFE's,
You could try an angle grinder with a 1mm cut off disc but be warned. They have a reputation for being the most dangerous tool in the workshopAny hints on how to cut stainless steel mesh please?
