Tried out the modified extractor, Extractor Test Vidio Extracted 3 supers of honey, and placed back on hives after cleaning extractor, 32kg worth so brings this years total to 56kg from 2 and a bit hives (4 from ours, one from an association hive)
And we have run out of jars!!

After a couple of quiet and wet days there’s a distinct hum back to the hives this eve.

Personally, I'd have made up the nuc after she'd arrived

Only made 9 nucs up with mated Queens but hell yeh i agree.. all 9 would have pulled safe but i goofed up with one last week..for me make a Queeless Nuc with brood food and plenty of bees..go to the cottage and get the commercial caged Queen out of the wardrobe..walk back to the hives open the candy plug and place them into the nuc side ways to stop the fondant dripping in or out..job sorted..

Installed a new queen this lunchtime who arrived in the post today - now in nuc in the travel cage - and also set a couple of wasp traps in the apiary as they are starting to bother and enter the colonies on occasion. Lots of interest in the jammy cidery concoction already....

Was looking at them from 25 ft away and zap! on the forehead! grrr.

Fair enough - I know I'm tight for time this week so was hedging bets a bit. Still, she's there now, hopefully all will work out.

Couple of queens arrived from Exmoor Bees, one went to requeen a colony that had turned black and then went queenless. Other made up another nuc which I plan to promote to a hive eventually.

B+ I’ve recently had delivered a P Stoffen hygienic queen, doubt I will get anything/test done this season it’s not my field of interest. But I will raise a few queens off her. May drop you a line next season for some advice.

You need a patch of sealed brood at the purple-eyed stage (10 days post capping), #2 entomology pin (stainless steel) and a 10*10 cell trapezoid.

Thks it will give me something to sort over the winter

Today I will be keeping my bee suit in the shed and letting the girls get on with it. Thirty five degrees, for Heaven's sake! Who ordered that?

Today was supposed to be inspection day - with a couple of interested friends coming round to give a hand and see what goes on.

Looking at the forecast though, thunderstorms start at 5pm and inspection is 6pm... :(

I opened a nuc yesterday to check on the Queens progress i got zapped straight away so i closed them back up and walked away..it certainly changes there mood when a thunderstorm is on the horizon..
