Its a beautiful day here today. I stood at the bottom of the garden watching the bees fly around like crazy. Some just flying round and round i think but also saw some on the neighbour's snowdrops. There were aslo lots flying low around the lawn - at least they looked like ours - what do you think they were doing? Is it possible that they were actually solitary bees coming out to enjoy the sunshine too??

Removed mouse guards, hooked out dead bees, carried on around apiary , returned to first hive , replaced mouse guard ( fretful flying had ceased) and then on to the remainder !
Checked fondant .
Weather sunny , very little wind, colder than yesterday , no pollen coming in !

Lovely sunny day, with little wind. Fed Hive 2 (weaker hive) fondant.
Both hives quite active in sun..

No pollen...too cold for that - frost last night and forecast tonight..

Spent the day oiling my new hives put them out to dry and tomorow i have three hundred frames to make up . :nature-smiley-014:. NOT looking forward to that.

Grafted some more queen cells

Don't do too many. At this rate there will be a spate of early queen rearing in the UK and too many home-bred queens to need any imports!

Really sharp frost last night but the bees are really active today. Grafting next week at this rate! Providing the weather holds, that is very......!

Regards, RAB

Rushed out today from work because of the good weather, had an hour to have a look into 3 hives, in 2 difference places. All bees active, put on fondant because they are still taking it, surprised to see pollen going in so, fingers crossed, queens laying. Didn't want to go into the hives as there will be a chill tonight, I will wait another week before tipping their world upside down.
Looking forward to a good year.

Built two new pig arcs and cleared a new site for them, which is just the other side of the fence from the bees.
So every time I took a break, I watched the bees out flying in the sun today. If the weather stays warm, I shall start them on pollen patties at the weekend.

Plus 14C, bright sunshine and calm. Took the opportunity to change crown boards on 3 colonies in my out apiary, Bees well spread out over 8 or 9 frames, some sealed stores visible. Just a quick look as solid board came off and feed hole one back on. All 3 given 2.5kg fondant as they are getting a bit light. Loads of pollen going in and bees well behaved - in fact they totally ignored me!

Managed to pop home for lunch today. A lovely still and sunny day (9 degrees.)
Watched bees returning from water and pollen forays. I saw hazel, snowdrop and crocus pollen being hauled in. Cheered me up for the rest of the day.

Running out of equipment is my 'forte', thank goodness I manage with 1 crown board per hive :) I can't think of a valid reason to have with and without feed holes :)

Lovely and bright today. Sunny but nippy. I made valentines cards with my students today then went to listen to my ladies. They weren't flying but they were hummng a lovely tune. Melodic and contented.

Picked up a dead bee in one of my apiaries.

As you can see there's lots of pollen coming in.
