Bees here have no problem forging in the rain, well drizzle anyway which is what we get mostly.

On way home from work 1030,get a call, swarm seen In a bush two miles from house, went to check it out and it couldn't have been easier,4ft up with no obstructions dropped into a cardboard box and placed in vacant tbh 10 mins later. If only collecting honey was as easy

Bait hive acquired a swarm this morning about 10am.

And then was told about another swarm nearby.

filtering honey today in the shed and bottling, when I got a call swarm end of road, so walked with kit only to find bumble bees oh well gave instructions and left, got home after owner gave me cup of tea for my trouble opened back gate , loads of bees ,surly not my hive there is no queen , no bucket full of bees and in the jar of honey, bees every where left door open , any one want to buy bees in a bucket .

Go out this morning to see a swarm hanging from a pear tree, thought it was the swarm I'd hived last night into the tbh,not so.Im nearly out of kit

Checked both hives yesterday, still waiting on new queen in one to start laying (been nearly 3 weeks since estimated emergence, just being impatient I guess). Spent today fitting foundation into frames of 2nd super as 1st is filling up nicely (my first full year of beekeeping so quite exciting really!). Been listening to the bikes flying around the TT course and enjoying a rare sunny day :)

Put new nuc of Welsh Bees on stand.
They are on BS standard and will end up 14 x 12 so will put them in a new hive on Tuesday and they will have the luxury of 2 drawn brood frames to start them off.
So pleased to watch them fly this afternoon :)

Went to remove the stopper from the queen cage so they could start to release her only to find the queen quite happily wandering around the comb already!

I tried 3 times to shake a swarm into a nuc. Eventually I left and returned 2 hours later. Guess what, they were all back in the tree again... grrrr.

So I shook then into my trusty skep and they all happily went in within 15 minutes, even the stragglers... result :)

Same here, already working the standard ones out

United colonies yesterday - this pm watched them carrying out and flying off with bits of newspaper ....very satisfying!

After a bit of a mess of a demaree I decided today would be the visit to place new very calm queen in her top BB at the bottom of the pile whilst finding and taking away the old queen whose flyers had gone very aggressive. The old queens progeny were never cross before this demaree. I wonder if the mixing of scent of two queens via the snelgrove board might have something to do with it. By the way, it took us just under an hour to find the old queen. Tried the dead queen on a pin (didn't work), then the empty box - QX - empty box trick (didn't work. Eventually spotted her on the side of the top box after bleeding nurse bees away back to the hive some 40 feet away. Lets hope they all settle down as its now a very big colony.

Checked the two swarms i have caught - the one I collected with Redwood on 6th May now has BIAS on five frames, first lot should emerge in a weeks time. The one found in the apiary hedge (not one from my hives I might add) now has eggs on two frames. Happy days!

I'll just bet some of your girls are decorating the bikers visors!

Took off the first honey of the year. Well pleased. For a change I have nott been surrounded by rape. About 120 lb of delicious hedgerow honey. My wife is away, so was able to leave the cleaning up until all finished for a change. Hope I found all the sticky bits!!!

For the first time ever, yesterday, I decided to sell honey from the gate..................was amazed to see that it worked. First car past stopped and the occupant bought some. Can't think why I haven't done this before?

(Well, I can, that'd be due to indolence.....and I say "I decided", HWMBO sorted out the sales table, signs and put out the honey before I knew what was happening. I was happy to take the money!)

Aaaaaaaaahhh!
Nice swarm 2 weeks ago (not mine), checked yesterday. BIAS so put queen into foam plunger marking unit. marked her, allowed ink to dry, gently put her back onto top of frame to run down.... she flew off..
Closed up and am hoping she returned. Getting nearer to clipping the little madams!

Woohoo . back in hive. one less worry.
