Did the Oxalic on the 16th, back to check the girls today, the drop was a lot more than I expected. Still it shows it works. All hives very quiet, as in no flying wished them all Merry Christmas and a better New Year! As I do to all on the forum.

Best Regards to all. :xmas-smiley-033::xmas-smiley-033::xmas-smiley-033:

Have the bees some fondant, saw them bringing in pollen.

OA on the fifteen hives in my garden, the out apiaries ill do next week.lost a nuc which i knew wouldnt make it as it had a very bad case of chalkbrood late summer and couldnt build up or take feed, they had stores and fondant but got stranded on an empty frame in the cold weather we had.I didnt combine it late summer with the risk of cross contamination,i could have shaken them but whats done is done.

bought 25kg of soya flour (£40) and 25kg of brewers yeast (£47), now just need to make the pollen patties.

will to get the cement mixer out for that lot lol.

Just checked my hives......
Nuc- dead... Bit of an experiment as it was a really really small late swarm.
Colony 1- treated with Ox only four seams of bee,s hopefully make it.
Colony 2 - dead still with plenty of stores,

All I all a terrible season, damp damp damp

Very depressed, going to have to raid the honey bank and see if I can book an early replacement Nuc.

Sorry to hear u lost 2 out of 3. Make sure you seal them up so as not to risk robbing by colony 1.

If you know why they died, freeze the stores for when you replace the bees either with a Nuc, Swarm or split, it will help the next ones get going that much quicker.

Sorry to hear about your bees.

I've just brought their Christmas Fondant down to them, and left at a run, stripping off clothes as I went. The little b*tches are clearly in fine fettle. Two stings for Christmas, thank you very much!

Maybe Mahonia Japonica which has just started being obvious in gardens near me.

I don't like them being out and about at this time of year and would much prefer a cold crisp winter to keep them clustered.

There's masses at our local Morrisons
I always thought that they planted very well for bees. Lots of cotoneaster and Lime as well.

Mine were out on the winter flowering honeysuckle yesterday - but blowing a gale and raining today :(

hives

just been and had a look at my hiveand nuc not seen a bee for about 2 weeks but today quite a few bees flying about so very good chrissy present for me to see them still alive

No girls flying today. No cold weather forecast for the rest of the month, so will OA sometime in the next couple of days.

Hi beebopalula,
Did my last colony today. No brood which was good. Now I can sit back and wait for the pollen to come in then it is red alert as they are light on stores!
Merry Xmas and a Happy New Year and I do like the bees on the Linnen Flax. Usually have a few fields around here. Must stop and check them out if I see any next year.

Don't intend to OA but today gave them some fondant as they did seem a little lighter than last time I hefted. And it's Christmas. And I'm a soft bugger and thought they might like it as a Christmas treat. Oh dear, the Christmas alcohol has definitely infiltrated my system!
:yeahthat:
