The nice big cherry tree close by has just come down. Bees won’t be happy.

Still going strong here. Weather station reading 970hpa. Rain coming through horizontally.
How’s your poly tunnel doing?Lost the power here for about 90 minutes this morning and there's a tree fallen across the main road into Taunton. Fortunately it's right where there's a lay-by so it's possible to drive around it. I might be dropping the chainsaw in the boot of the car when I go to pick my daughter up from school this afternoon though, just in case.
There are going to be a few small repairs needed tomorrow, but I think we're through the worst of it now.

I always remember the old country boys saying hedges are far better at sheltering from wind than solid barriers such as walls. The wind filters through a hedge and takes the force out whereas with a wall the wind goes up and over, down the other side and carries on. Ripping out hedges caused a lot of soil erosion in flat farmland areas around the 1960sChecked the hives today. Thankfully all intact and upright. Although the field they are in is exposed, they are tucked by a hedge which held up brilliantly against the storm.
single brick width garden wall not built for load bearing, then someone adds a sail on top of it.......................................The wind doesn't always bother to go up and over the wall.......
Yes but it had been there for 50+ years prior to Friday doing a good job keeping neighbours apart.single brick width garden wall not built for load bearing, then someone adds a sail on top of it.......................................
so fair play, was a bit knackered and ripe to go! I've got over seventy yards of of double brick width wall 'English garden wall' bonded which, after over a century is now starting to show it's age with bricks loosening as mortar crumbles (fair plat, apart from the part running beside the house to the front, nothing has been done maintenance wise since it was built. It's still doing good apart from one little bit - my next door neighbour, who loved building, gardening and garden design turned his whole garden into a Japanese type garden and planted a clump of bamboo up the top and also started to rebuild the whole wall, then promptly died five years ago last Christmas eve. His widow hasn't ventured out of the back door ever since, the garden is a jungle and the only time someone has been in there was, after he died his sons tidied up the building materials from a project he had started by taking all the stuff up to the top of the garden, and stacked a pile of timber against the wall. The bamboo has grown and pushed against the wall, and aided by the weight of the timber a small section collapsed a little while ago.Yes but it had been there for 50+ years prior to Friday
