Re: cat and blackbird? video...(why publish this?) is it any wonder that people think cats are the pits.:( would one be so sanguine if the cat was being ripped apart by a dog?

:iagree: Horrible!

Our neighbor now has cats and our bird table which was our entertainment whilst doing the washing up is now a waste of time.

The birds which spent a lot of time each visit now shoot in grab and go and the Goldcrests have disappeared.

It's very very disappointing.

Everyone I know who has a cat swears that their cat doesn't kill poor little songbirds . . . . despite the fact that they have to pick up the pieces on occasion. Cat lovers are all in denial about this.

My cats catch birds from time to time, no doubt about it; but our resident sparrowhawk takes at least one blue tit or great tit every day without fail.

My donkeys corner and stamp to death any coypu which are in their field.

Foxes catch chickens, dogs can do terrible damage to sheep.

People do awful things both to animals and each other.

I've had cats most of my married life (no unconscious humour).
I had 2 at the same time . One had been hand reared(bottle fed) the other was an ex-feral cat .
The ex-feral was a natural hunter but was confined during the evening/ night /early morning so the damage she must have done was limited . the hand reared cat didn't know the first thing about hunting and wasn't interested in the slightest :). One day a mouse was running about on a pile of timber ready for conversion into a fence ,my neighbour said "John look at Suki, she's sat there watching that mouse and making no attempt to catch it" .
The feral cat answered to the whistle , I whistled for her and over the fence she popped, saw the mouse and immediately pounced on it and gobbled it up save for the gall bladder . Suki sat there in amazement :).

Do your cats eat the birds they catch because they are hungry or just for "fun"?

I rather doubt if foxes, or sparrowhawks do it for fun.

Have you seen the damage a fox can do to a hen house, they will kill all birds even if they only want one. its a real sorry site to see 20,30,50+ birds killed and only one taken.

Also any chance this last part of the thread could continue in a new thread so it doesnt ruin a really good thread please.

Cats don't do anything for fun . Even when tormenting a mouse , they are polishing up their stalking skills .
Like most animals in nature they don't have empathy in their psyche,
Nature isn't cruel nor is it kind , it's indifferent !

Built a brood box after work, only one more brood box, three supers, a roof, two stands and a floor to go to turn Thxxxes sale kit into usable hive parts.

I'm drawing a line under the cat debate, cat owners become illogical when their cats are critisied.

But do keep them out of my garden, or you risk losing them.
