lost about 2 litres of sweat inspecting 4 colonies. only the last one was subjected to anything that could be called a breeze.

The Oz Armour suit appeals but Winter is Coming.......not worthy

I've got the mann lake mesh suit. So I've been checking hives in shorts and t-shirt, under the mesh suit. Lovely!

This time of year on a double hive foundation always goes below as anything in top brood box gets filled with stores by the time of the next inspection in 1-2 weeks.

So what’s wrong with that? It’s still better than going into the brood box. Extract it and you have a box of lovely brood comb.

That's what I was trying avoid: I want them to put stores in the supers - and is why I put the new box underneath....

Who needs to go to the jim I know how you feel I've been doing my inspections in the morning , I've three sites now in a 6 mile radius so at least I get a brake between sites. Suite on hood down nice breeze in your face. Got a few looks when I popped to the local for a drink between sites :sunning:

I soaked my T shirt with water prior to donning my jacket today, was cool for 4 hives at least!

I was a bath of sweat before starting, the amount of stuff I took to the apiary today.
The very last of my supers and three brood boxes to house my little Amm tower that just had to come down. They've done a brilliant job of drawing deep combs and they were an absolute delight as they were moved into their new accommodation of three deeps.
Her daughter has done really well and I have a clearer under two supers while adding another two.
Added another tier to the new queens, who need the space. Ceredigion bees still piling back and for. More supers added and clearing two. Her daughter is following her example, so last super to my name goes to those.
Even in the 'Ozzy' I was drenched but not complaining :)

Time and work meant inspecting between 1.30 and 2.30 today. It was fun. Inside the nitrile gloves was a flood after that.

I was putting a couple of clearers and extra supers on between 2 and 3 o'clock and I know what you mean!

There's a decent flow on here, there are a few local lime trees but I'm not sure if they're still flowering or not, if they are presumably the heat and humidity will help.

Either way, they're bring in plenty of nectar from somewhere or other.

At the bees at 8 am. Hot enough already.
Some supers off
Clearer boards on some more
All QCs bar one out of one hive, boy were they unhappy.

My worst day to date and the weather did not help, i was soaked in sweat and that was with the OZ suit on..
The day started of OK i found/ marked and clipped a laying Queen in a Nuc then the poop hit the fan and i could kick myself for what i did next.

I went through one of two hives to look for a mated Queen that emerged last week, the first hive i went through i found the smallest drone laying Queen i have seen to date, she was even smaller than the worker bees and the only reason i spotted her was them brown long leg's... this is where i went wrong ( i should have splatted her instantly) but i thought no i will check number two virgin Queen hive to see if i had a laying queen and then i would unite and i did find a laying Queen..

The next 1hr 30mins was the nightmare because could i hell for the life of me find her a second time.. in the end i moved the hive from the original spot and left the super on the floor for all the flying bees to go back to, i then took half of the frames out of the brood box leaving three pairs spread out.. i then left them for 10 mins and i still could not find her, so i pushed them all together and left them even longer and i still could not find her so i give in... the heat was too bad to continue... i removed the super and shook all the bees into the brood box and closed it back up..

I have a Question to ask but i will start a new thread instead of writing a book type post on here.

Nitrile gloves ? My double brood swarmed into a tree the other night I've caught them there in a hive . there getting a new mated queen ...
Dilemma looked in the double brood 6 capped queen cells 2 uncapped there not all on the same frames either there's three supers on two with honey one drawn with nectar in .
There's bias covering 14 frames all together the rest are stores , and one dummy in each box . advice what would you do .

It looks like the honey pots coming out... If you know my meaning.:paparazzi:

Any pictures? Sounds useful any pictures?

When the sun disappears I’ll just pop a piece of copper pipe through the side and attach a steam cleaner

Split them if you want more colonies or knock back all the capped QC’s leave one or two uncapped (your choice) mark their location and check again in a week.

Nitrile gloves are harder wearing than latex and vinyl but thinner than marigolds. Better feel than leather but non porous.

Thanks for that, gave me an idea.

Went and checked my main hive about 15 minutes ago to see if any signs if the newspaper unite had been successful. Id say about one in fifty bees flying at the entrance were of Buckfast origin so initial signs are good.

The bees were extremely defensive however, I had a queen in my bee suit top pocket last night and that drew them in, then they started going for the veil.

Suspect my old girl is not too happy as the split left her with too much brood (only the one frame) but they raised QCs again. Knocked em back and will check again in 4-5 days.

Got my red marking pen to mark my 2 2018 Q’s Sod’s law the one I sometimes struggle to find jumped out at me of the second frame, marked and returned. The almost black Q that is always easy to spot couldn’t find anywhere. Two looks through the brood boxes BIAS and fresh eggs so I’m sure she is there somewhere. Will give it a couple of days and look again, double Langstroth brood very full

Visited my friend's apiaries and had lots of fun putting clearer boards on some of his tottering towers. Released a beautiful black queen into her new colony. The bees immediately formed a circle around her and we watched her walk off followed by her entourage.
I have an hour to re hydrate before going to fetch home some supers.

Could not find the drone laying Queen but her days are numbered.. found and marked/clipped a F3 Queen she is the biggest fattest thing i have seen yet,, her offspring are a tad feisty but i can live with that the way she is laying..

Extracted 32lb of what looks like runny honey ..happy day's ..;)
