Came back from holiday and In a bit of a mess. The brood area is mess with brace comb honey con the sides. Comb built all over. Dam it's only been two weeks and they have caused all this. Couldn't be bothered to tidy it all up so left it as is for tomorrow.

I've seen a good colony draw out a box of Langstroth deep foundation in a week. In two weeks, they'd fill it with honey too. You'll have a real mess to clean up now.

Had a swarm arrive last Tuesday
Queen missed the nuc opening but went under bait hive and I was able to transfer into 6frame nuc with brood extension all 11 foundation one drawn comb
Checked today
Drawn comb replaced with new comb and all other 11 frames drawn fully with no feed assistance from me
Queen laying in bottom box as all top frames are honey bound
Placed double nuc supers on to give them somewhere to store the honey from the top box

Were there large gaps then? Remember, anything bigger than a bee space and they will build in it!!!!

what the ....?

inspected a hive this morning. it was a nuc not long back but is expanding great. the queen is marked and laying (2018 vintage). saw her 4 days ago with plenty of eggs/larva which are in a classic looking brood pattern.

today though I couldn't find the queen anywhere. no sign of eggs either. I wasn't too concerned as 1 or 2 queens have gone off laying just recently.

After looking a second time saw an unmarked queen that looks suspiciously like a virgin.

the thing is, 4 days ago there were no queen cells anywhere. not even play cups, just nice looking brood and stores.

the hive next door, which is 6-8 foot away, was expecting a queen cell emerge Thursday/Friday.

I'm thinking this queen did her mating flight yesterday and has gone to the wrong hive.

lets hope that the mating was successful and their temperament is good.

Awesome.. over the moon for you and long may it continue..

Made up a jar of HM's Thymol additive. Added a few drops of lemongrass oil, not sure how good an idea that was so it would attract the bees in the hives to it...

Millet, is that lime honey? Does it taste minty at all?

Oh, and I greatly approve of the kitty.

I think my spring honey is Hawthorne, cherry, sycamore and the summer is bramble, clover ,thistle, wild flowers . what's the term multi- floral honey . or as I'm told its just got to be called honey on the labels!

Can you tell by the colour what honey it is ?

Another 82lb extracted
2 more supers being cleared
And another 100 super frames and foundation ordered

One of my hives was a bit odd on inspection today. Top brood box was honey bound, as I was a bit late in adding more supers. HM Not seen at all. Only older uncapped larvae and capped. No eggs. Bottom brood box, still a lot of laying space, same brood pattern. About six unsealed queen cells on face of comb. Assume she has swarmed early. Knocked queen cells back to one. No young larvae to build more, but will check again in a couple of days. Couple of supers added. Still loads of bees. I usually only check top brood box at this time of year.

No this is pure lime honey. Crystal clear. And greener!
This is a 2oz jar that is at least five years old!

Found my Q that eluded me the other day, marked her but not sure if I caused her some harm. She was walking a bit funny slightly to one side when I released her, the bees didn’t seem to bother her but I’ll be gutted to loose her as she is calm and lays like a machine.
Will check back in 3 days for any sign of supersedure fingers crossed she’s ok
