John,

The Commercial hives sold by th****s are bottom beespace:confused:

That's the power of persuasion :).
Sometimes whilst reading through the threads on this and other beekeeping fora,
I can't help thinking that there is a lot of text wasted on minutiae (,Top bottom bee space , syrup or candy , attendants in attendants out, types of glove/gauntlet .I could go on and on as some do ) why not concentrate on beekeeping or is that too difficult ? Not half as easy as nit picking over trivia I suppose.
You've guessed it! I am old, I do sport a beard,
I am not neither have I been a member of bibba.
or held any position in the BBKA :svengo:.

Commercial Hives are most definitely 'bottom bee stance' as standard. This I know, as I used to have several colonies housed in them.

In those days, as I used to work my bees along with two other beekeepers and their bees, when we decided to all convert our commercial hives to top bee space, it wasn't a problem. But if you convert just one or two hives, then you will have problems of standard parts not fitting with what you've got.

If you like and want to go for top bee space, then I would say go for a hive that has been designed with a top bee space.
