Hi, i have a thermal camera at work which i borrow over weekends to check on the bees to see if they are still alive. this is last week's observations.

i showed this to my local beekeeping association and they are also not toying with the idea to get one as its useful to also help monitor colonies without having to open the hives. its also useful to pinpoint beehives in lofts etc as we can pinpoint the colony instead of hacking the whole ceiling down and hope for the best.

Fascinating. Might look to invest in one.
Love the seed tray (?) over the nuc roof!

Interesting, any poly hives for comparison?

My late father used them for bats as part of his ecology business and also looking at trees that are dying etc

very useful bit of kit - if you are ever in Sutton SM2 with it let me know and we can get a thermal signature for a paynes poly national (and nuc)

I have thought several times I would like something like a Flir camera but the cost has always put me off.
Has anyone ever tried the units for under £100 from China?

What model are you using also which version? Ive been considering the pro version 3, on iOS.

I see the cross hairs aren't on the cluster - were you just checking that they were all alive rather than anything else?

Thanks

You can get the flir E4 cheap and patch the firmware to get the full resolution of the E8 that's about 3k. All the hardware is the same, just limited in software.

the one i am using borrowed from work is a FLIR E5.. i had tried researching to patch firmware to the E8, but most forums seem to have instructions from E4 to E8. have you got any experience patching Flir firmwares or know anyone who had done it before?

i asked my work and they say go ahead if i feel confident to upgrade. if i brick it, they say they will buy a replacement as its now 5 years old anyway.

I have a pulsar XQ38 would that do a similar job?
