What a hyporcrite Ed Balls is:

(Anyone who believes most politicians are not is at best naive.. at worst in need of professional help :)

I've just signed a petition asking George Osborne to pay his fair share of taxes. It turns out he's using "legal" loopholes to get out of paying £1.6million in tax. He says "we're all in this together" so if we are, shouldn't he be paying his fair share of tax?

They are all bent.....

Chancellor George Osborne said after the talks that it was "incredibly important" that firms and individuals paid the tax they owed.

Generally speaking, politicians have soul. not worthy

In case you think Ed Milliband is a simple soul who does not avoid tax..

They are all tarred with the same brush .... even those that go into politics with a view to Public Service seem to eventually fall into the trap of taking everything they can get - there are still a lot of 'legitimate' expenses claimed by politicians that I would view as 'questionable' at best and 'immoral' if not illegal at worst.

And that's before you even start digging for the really 'dubious' benefits and junkets that some MP's seem to enjoy .... and as for the European Parliament - well .... that's a whole new ball game !

this is why they are spending our money on hs2 so they can whizz home and still claim expenses for over night stay in London any one knows the price of a ticket on hs2 no wonder why they wont tell any one until they have booked there seats first

Here you forgot these, (hands over big bag of full stops & commas).

you can only use them if you are a tax dodger , educated and rich and an exploiter of the minions.
ah an educator ?

There has always been loop holes in taxes but It seems that only the rich knew about them until the freedom of information act. My daughters accountant is an x tax inspector and what I get from him is some you win and some you loose so to speak, I actually went to my tax office and complained and guess what I don't pay as much taxes as my fellow workers

You are all cynical and wrong. Tony Blair became PM because he believed in creating a better life and more wealth for.............

Tony Blair.

There seems to be a big difference between tax avoidance and tax evasion....... depends upon who fills in the tax return I suppose!

no your wrong there, he became pm because the nation put him there, so its our fault

Redwood and Danbee- I agree, you speak with some sense.

The original thread referred to a 38 degree motion which had 2 parts. The second part of the motion (closing tax loopholes) is clearly sensible and is, and should be the aim of most sensible governments, but can be subject to the law of unintended consequences eg.

But most posts here seem to mirror the public outrage expressed at George's "disgusting" tax avoidance schemes. This makes me smile, as I would be surprised if any politician, businessmen, Beekeeping Forum member or sane taxpayer would willingly pay more tax than they legally need to.

Anyone out there insanely altruistic enough to be knowingly paying more tax than they need to? Mmmm I thought not!

Anyway, why is this thread making it onto a Beekeeping Forum?

Going with what you have just said then, is it fine to aggressively find ways to reduce your tax bill and not give a damn about the effects that has on the society that you live in?

I find that to be a thoroughly depressing thought, I may be naïve but I would like to contribute to society and quite happily pay taxes. l would even pay more to make a positive difference. It is probably why I am not a politician.
