My local BKA are bulk buying syrup and have sent an email asking if anyone would like to get in on it.

It sounds like it’ll be coming in 14 litre containers. How many litres am I likely to need per hive?

My colonies are all swarms from this year and still haven’t quite filled a brood box…I’m hoping they will do in the next few weeks

Depends on so much, anything from nothing to 16 litres? If they fill the brood box on their own they won't need anything!

It will keep so won’t waste if you over order. We fill an English feeder twice per colony so approx 2 containers do three hives-ish.
We've already had weight v volume on another thread but you'll probably find its 14kg containers - approx 10ltrs. ;)
If your colonies haven’t filled the brood boxes and you’ve an opportunity to purchase fondant that may also be a wise move. Usually 12.5kg boxes, 5*2.5kg slabs, a slab onto the hive if it feels a little light late Winter / early Spring.

I make sure I have one jerrycan per colony. Don’t always need it but that’s what I order

On average it's a jerrycan per colony, although looking at individual colonies I have some which will take down two, I seldom have to top up feed in late winter/early spring. we also have a good ivy flow around here

Great, I’ll get one container per colony.

I have quite a lot of fondant left over from last year…will it still be ok to use?
